Whether you’ve never picked up a tennis racket before or you’ve been playing for years, everyone is welcome at the University of Ottawa Tennis Club.
Our recreational program is designed to make tennis accessible, fun, and social for all University of Ottawa students. What makes our program unique is that it is entirely student-led: practices are organized and delivered by members of our Executive Team and Gee-Gees Varsity athletes, allowing participants to learn directly from experienced student-athletes and become part of a broader tennis community on campus.
We welcome players of all genders and skill levels, from complete beginners to approximately 4.0 NTRP. To ensure that everyone enjoys practices and continues to improve, players are placed into one of three recreational divisions based on their experience and ability.
No matter your level, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills, meet fellow students, and enjoy the game in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Division 1 is our most competitive recreational division and is often considered our Varsity Reserve. It is intended for advanced players who want to continue developing their game while preparing to challenge for a spot on the Gee-Gees Varsity Team at future tryouts.
Division 2 is designed for intermediate players who already have some tennis experience and are looking to improve their consistency, technique, and match play in a structured yet welcoming environment.
Division 3 is perfect for beginners or players who are still learning the fundamentals of tennis. Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or returning to the sport after a long break, you’ll learn in a friendly, encouraging, and pressure-free atmosphere.
The recreational season begins after the Fall Reading Week and concludes before the Winter Term final exam period. Each division practices once a week.
Players who wish to join our recreational program for the full academic year are required to pay a membership fee.
Registration typically opens in September. To stay up to date with registration dates, announcements, and club news, be sure to follow us on Instagram: @geegeestennis.
