The Gee-Gees Varsity Tennis Team consists of a Men’s and a Women’s team (approx. 15 men and 15 women). Student-athletes have the opportunity to compete at a highly competitive level while representing the University of Ottawa across Ontario. Throughout the season, we travel to compete against the other seven universities in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league. Our season begins in early September and concludes in October with the OUA Championship.
Our team is driven by a shared commitment to excellence. The top eight men and top eight women compete at OUA competitions, while the remaining players serve as reserves and continuously compete for a spot on the active roster.
In September and October, the Varsity team practices every weekday morning from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Rockliffe Lawn Tennis Club.
During the off-season (November–April), the team typically practices 2–3 times per week at Rideau Sports Centre.
The team also has a weekly gym session at uOttawa’s High Performance Centre with a private trainer.
The men’s and women’s teams always train together to foster a strong team culture and push each other to improve. Practices begin with a tennis-specific dynamic warm-up and hitting warm-up, followed by live-ball drills and games designed to develop footwork and agility. Sessions conclude with point-play scenarios and match play.
We hold two Varsity tryout sessions each year at Rockliffe Lawn Tennis Club.
The first session usually takes place in late August and is intended for students who are already in the Ottawa area. The second session is typically held during the first week of classes and is intended for students arriving from outside the Ottawa region.
Please note that participation in the tryouts requires payment of a non-refundable tryout fee.
